Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, Steamboat Room
Credits: None at this time
Fee: Free

The AIA Interior Architecture Knowledge Community represents one of the largest areas of practice in the design profession, as well as one of the most accessible – horizontal, applicable to a broad range of building types and projects. Interior designers find themselves applying their expertise to a range of different projects, while base – building architect colleagues may specialize in a particular type of building, be it housing, or healthcare, or justice and so forth.

As current economic conditions lead more architecture firms to seek to expand into Interiors, as well larger practices to expand into smaller scale work they may not previously have considered, competition is now keener than ever. Access to more in-depth, pragmatic, experience-based information related to best practices will become critical, as will establishing benchmarks in the education and development of a new generation of Interior Designers, trained for the demands of an evolving practice area.

We’d like to hear what you think about Interior Arcitecture: What are your needs and what are your challenges? What lessons can you bring that help define a descipline that is driven by the marketplace, the client and the practitioner.

Speakers: Mary A. Burke, Principal, Burke Design & Architecture PLLC • Brian Malarkey, Executive Vice President, EcoServices
